Explores issues of identity, diversity, social justice, and service learning through academic study and participation in local community service settings. Further develops reading skills through a focus on divergent perspectives on themes of social responsibility, literacy, and educational equity. Emphasizes the writing process and develops empathic and critical listening skills through class discussion, peer workshops, community service, and group presentations within a collaborative, interactive, and intercultural environment.
