Course Description:

Examines the changing meanings of democracy and freedom in the histories of the United States, looking carefully at political relations among the diverse social groups in the United States from multicultural perspectives. Introduces students to historical and contemporary philosophies of the U.S. and California Constitutions, as well as cultural and political meanings of citizenship. Emphasizes critical reading, writing, and hands-on experience with the tools of historical research and political action. (Offered every semester.)
